Samsung Enjoys Strong Brand Recognition in Notebook PC Market
With the rapid expansion of notebook PCs exports to several overseas markets, Samsung Electronics is very likely to emerge as one of the top three notebook PC suppliers in China in 2006, and a top five player in other markets such as Russia, Europe and Southeast Asia in 2007.

According to the company, exports of notebook PCs are expected to reach 600,000 units this year, up nearly 50% from last year, of which 250,000 units were shipped to China and Russia under its own brand name.

Boosted by its strong brand name in China, Samsung Electronics jumped into the top five group in the notebook PC market, raising its market share from 3% last year to 6% this year, and is vying for the No. 1 or 2 spot in Hong Kong. The company recently began operation of a notebook PC plant in Suzhou, China, with annual output of 1 million units.

"Samsung Electronics' share in European notebook PC markets is increasing steadily as it emphasizes marketing strategies such as bundling with other IT devices such as monitors. Its share in China and Russia also is rising propelled by its strong brand image," said an official at Samsung.

Based on a favorable export market situation, Samsung Electronics expects to ship more than 1 million units of notebook PCs to overseas markets next year, up 60 to 70% over this year.

Foreseeing that PC platforms will serve as core technology for home network systems and next-generation information appliances in the future, Samsung Electronics is poised to achieve economies of scale by aggressive exports of notebook PCs.
