According to 'Analysis and Outlook of Korean IT Market,
2002¡2007' report released by IDC Korea on
the 22nd, high growth in IT service and software will
help to increase the growth of the domestic IT market
by 5.3% year-on-year to 14.8 trillion won.
In particular, as the focus of the domestic IT market
moves from hardware to IT service and software this
year, IT service and software are expected to record
growth of 13.5% and 5.6% respectively. In comparison,
the hardware area except network equipment is expected
to decrease its proportion out of the IT market by recording
a growth of 1.2% this year. IDC also said that a Hardware
proportion in the domestic IT market would drop to less
than 50% in 2004.
In the software market that is leading the growth of
the domestic IT market, SI software is expected to record
a growth of 7.1% while the application area will account
for 42% in the software market in terms of market volume.
In particular, SI and outsourcing in the IT service
area draw attention as they are expected to lead the
market in terms of growth as well as market volume.
In the hardware area where growth has been sluggish,
the PC market will record a meager 1% growth this year
year-on-year and continues to see its proportion in
the IT market decrease. As a result, the PC sector is
expected to give away its first position to IT service
in 2004. The large server and disk storage market will
make small growth compared to last year while the printer
market will record negative growth.
While demand in the network equipment market is expected
to similar to that in last year, demand for edge router
rather than large router is expected to drastically
increase. The domestic LAN market is expected to be
dependent on the spread of 10-gigabit Ethernet switch
that has been recently introduced.
The outlook in 2003 by industry says that except the
PC market, financial area will account for biggest portion
of 21% in the domestic IT market, followed by public
and education area and manufacturing at 19% and 17%
respectively.
