Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA)
conducted the 'Statistics of Domestic Information Security
Industry and Market Research' of 100 information security
companies with their sales of information security products
standing at higher than 20% from October to December
2002.
According to the research, the domestic market for
last year grew by 19.2% to 396.4 billion won from the
previous year, and it is projected to increase by 30%
to 516.5 billion won this year.
By information security product groups, system &
network solution market and information security service
market including consulting are expected to rise by
24.3% and a staggering 58.7% to 371.4 billion and 56.5
billion won respectively.
By items, anti-break-in system (firewall) is highly
likely to lead the pack with its market hovering at
67.2 billion won followed by intrusion detection system
(IDS) with 64.3 billion won, PKI & encoding with
54.9 billion won, anti-virus with 48.8 billion won and
virtual private network with 38.4 billion won.
Even though PKI and encoding and anti-virus markets
were recorded at the 42.4 billion won-level respectively
last year, PKI and encoding market is likely to excel
anti-virus market this year. This can be explained by
a skyrocketing demand for PKI & encoding solutions
buoyed by the spread of various certification systems.
Biometrics market, which accounted for 16% out of the
whole information security market last year, is also
expected to see robust growth of 42.8% this year.
In the meantime, information security market is likely
to grow to 165.6 billion won in 2007 by posting an average
growth of around 36% a year by 2007, and biometrics
market is also poised to witness an average rise of
23.1% a year to reach 175.5 billion won in 2007.
On the other hand, system and network products, such
as firewall, IDS and VPN, are projected to set back
from last year's 75% down to 64% in 2007 in terms of
their market composition ratio by posting a low growth
of 8.5% a year.
