PKI In Singapore Gets A Boost
Now, companies and Public Key Infrastructure or PKI vendors have a platform to test their PKI applications and technologies.
The STPC, located at The Crimson, Science Park 2.

The Singapore PKI Technology Centre or SPTC was launched by the PKI Forum Singapore and CrimsonLogic on 30 October to promote the development and adoption of PKI in Singapore.

Apart from providing a test-bed and be a showcase of new PKI technologies and applications, the SPTC will enable cross-border testing of applications, technologies and digital signature interoperability. This will achieve technical and operational interoperability of digital certificates and applications offered by multi-vendors.

The centre will also be a hotspot for technical training on PKI technology.

Said PKI Forum Singapore Chairman and CEO of SingTel Mobile, Mr Lucas Chow, "Through the use of the SPTC facilities, businesses can better understand the benefits of PKI and have a good estimate of the amount of investment and resources required for its deployment in their organisations."

CrimsonLogic has been appointed by the PKI Forum Singapore as the operator of the SPTC. Meanwhile, CrimsonLogic has entrusted the day-to-day management of the centre to its security arm, RadianTrust, which in turn is able to leverage on its business focus to provide close-to-market support for the SPTC.

Below is a welcome speech by Mr V Mathivanan, CEO of CrimsonLogic for Singapore PKI Technology Centre Launch.

This is an important time in the business world. It is a time for us to find new ways to do business in the face of keen competition. A time for us to leverage on the Internet for seamless connection to our customers and partners worldwide. And a time for us to address the challenge of Internet security to harness the power of eCommerce.

With the adoption of the Internet by organisations to streamline business processes, build new revenue models and serve customers more conveniently, there is now a widespread need for secure, reliable digital identity and signing technology.

As a result, electronically signed documents are seen as a viable and attractive alternative to paper forms and contracts. And PKI has since emerged as the standard for generating secure digital signatures.

As a founder of the Pan Asian eCommerce Alliance since the year 2000, we are currently driving an initiative to conceptualise a cross-border security framework to facilitate trade in the global eCommerce world.

For this initiative, we are deploying PKI as the security technology for the conceptual security framework. Though there are other competing technologies, PKI is increasingly becoming the mainstream security backbone of many eCommerce trading facilities.

The main advantage of PKI technology is that it ensures data integrity, authentication, confidentiality and non-repudiation of any messages being exchanged. This is essential for cross-border business transactions where there is a lack of face-to-face interactions and data exchanges.

To foster a secure eCommerce environment through the use of PKI technology, there is a need for mutual recognition of digital certificates by Certificate Authorities. There is also a need for a common platform for organisations to develop and test new PKI technology and applications.

With these needs in mind, the first PKI Technology Centre in Singapore is thus born to promote a secure eCommerce environment.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have been appointed by the PKI Forum Singapore to operate the Singapore PKI Technology Centre.

Over the years, we have gained a great wealth of experience in PKI. We have managed the technical operations of the internal Certificate Authority for the Singapore Supreme Court, as well as the technical operations of Singapore's first certified national Certificate Authority, ID.Safe.

Together with our security subsidiary RadianTrust, we have developed and implemented the Singapore PKI Technology Centre to provide a physical premise for companies to conduct interoperability testing.

In addition to the facilities provided by the Singapore PKI Technology Centre, we can provide you with proven advice for your PKI experimental projects. Provide you with consultation and security services for your PKI implementation. And help you implement and host your PKI to meet your business requirements.

With the strong support from the PKI Forum Singapore, I have no doubt that the Singapore PKI Technology Centre will help accelerate the adoption of PKI in the region.
