(11
Nov 2003, Hong Kong) In an effort to increase the awareness
of Internet security to the newer generation, Digi-Sign
is sponsoring 1000 free Personal ID-Cert (with 2 year validity)
to members, Community College Lecturers and staff of the
Information Technology Society of the Hong Kong University
School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE).
Digi-Sign
Certification Services Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary
of Tradelink. It is the first private Certification Authority
recognised by the Hong Kong Government under the Electronic
Transactions Ordinance. Branded ID-Cert, the digital certificates
issued by Digi-Sign can serve to confirm the identity of
users who access remote servers over public data or virtual
private networks.
An interactive
learning environment is made possible as the Internet has
become an integral medium to our every day lives. With the
fast growing popularity of Internet usage and broadband
technology, more and more applications and transactions
can now be put on line. However, hackers are also taking
this opportunity to conduct illegal and unethical activities
on the web.
Hackers
typically attack unsecured e-transactions such as those
without data encryption or proper owner authentication.
The HKU SPACE IT Society, recognizing this inclination,
invites Digi-Sign Certification Services Limited (Digi-Sign)
to sponsor Personal ID-Certs to allow their members, Community
College Lecturers and staff a means to conduct e-transactions
securely. The security of these transactions is essential
to building effectiveness and quality in their interactive
learning environment initiatives.
Holders
of Digi-Sign ID-Certs can make use of their digital certificates
to conduct e-transactions any time, anywhere. The IT Society
thanks Digi-Sign for it services and looks forward to more
co-operation opportunities with Digi-Sign to increase the
public awareness of Internet security.
The
HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU
SPACE) is the first major continuing professional education
provider in Hong Kong. The fundamental teaching principle
of the College is to provide a student-oriented and interactive
learning environment.
