Mr. Wu said, “The Hong Kong SAR Government and the Hospital Authority have put in tremendous efforts in the areas of prevention and surveillance of the pandemic, by getting prepared for the challenges for the infectious disease outbreaks. The experience in the SARS outbreak in 2003 has brought forth higher efficiency in these areas, and the Government Health, Welfare and Food Bureau, the Hospital Authority and the department of Health have commenced preparation work 6 months ago, and a comprehensive plan to deal with the pandemic is already in place which includes the strengthening of the communication channel with the Mainland authority, supply of medicines, regular drills, etc. We strongly believe, Hong Kong is fully capable to deal with the challenges of the sudden outbreak of the disease.” To read the speech in full.
